My favorite healthy, delicious, protein-packed smoothie!
January is full of promise and possibility. It’s all about healthy new beginnings. One of my favorite easy, on the go breakfasts or snacks is the Golden Pearl Smoothie, which is the perfect combination of health and creamy goodness. It combines both essential nutrients and tasty superfoods that will sustain you for hours and help break down saturated fats (especially if you opt for the PB2 powder over the regular peanut butter). The Chia Seeds contain healthy unsaturated fats, which when consumed in moderation, actually help burn unwanted fat and maintain a healthy weight. I add a tablespoon of honey for less froth and foam to form on the smoothie (and also because I like it a little sweeter). Making sure that your honey is locally sourced can help with seasonal allergies. My aunt and uncle actually produce their own honey at their ranch and share it with us! Additionally, if you feel depleted after a tough workout, this smoothie contains potassium (from the banana), tryptophan (from the milk and the honey), and protein which allows your muscles to repair and become even stronger for the next time you hit the gym! Check out the yummy recipe below!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of Milk
- 1-2 tbsps of Honey (depending on sweetness preference)
- 1-2 tbsps of either Peanut Butter or PB2 Powder for a healthier option
- 1 Banana
- 1 Scoop of Protein Powder
- 1/2 cup of Steel-Cut Oats (I have a Celiac allergy, so I get the Steel Cut Gluten Free kind)
- 1 tbsp of Chia Seeds
- 1/2 cup of Ice
Blend it all up and enjoy!
After you’re done, put one or two cups of water into your blender, with a drop of dish soap, and run it on “mix” to quickly clean up.
