❄️ Come Get Your Freeze On With ME! ❄️
Anyone who knows me can attest that I’m the coldest person they know. Freezing 99% of the time. Even in the summer, I am likely wearing a jacket or coat. However, despite my constant state of cold, I discovered the benefits of freezing in a chamber at -220 to -250 degrees Fahrenheit and have been hooked ever since. Sounds crazy, I know. It’s called cryotherapy and has been an amazing addition to my health and fitness regimen.
Cryotherapy aids in muscle and tendon recovery, helps develop sound sleep patterns, and gives you an adrenaline rush that can burn between 200 and 800 calories depending on your size. It almost sounds too good to be true…but it just is. After doing cryotherapy pretty much every single day for the last four months, I have definitely noticed that my mood is clear and improved after and also that my body recovers much more quickly between workouts because of my time in the Antarctic chamber.
Even on frigid January days, I make an effort to do a session because I know how amazing and refreshed I will feel after. I’d like to be able to say that my frequency and dedication to cryo has helped me build up a tolerance to the cold, but I’ve come to realize that, much to my chagrin, I am just cold natured. So here’s to big fluffy coats, blankets, and fires…some of the best things that come with winter! Haha.
What to expect:
Strip it down. Be prepared to enter the chamber with minimal clothes…remember, the point is to freeze your body. They provide you with a pair of gloves or mittens, socks (which I always double over my own socks), and slippers so that your extremities survive the Arctic tundra.
You will be cold–very cold. In fact, I look forward to the point when I am numb so that I don’t have to focus on being cold anymore. In order to distract yourself, dive into intriguing conversation with whoever is operating your session. Just remember how awesome you will feel afterwards and all of those extra calories that you are burning. Spring break and Summer bods are made in the Winter!
If you are a newbie to cryotherapy, you will likely start at two minutes in the chamber so that you can adjust and understand what to expect in the future. After that, you will become a three minute cryo regular. If you are looking to de-stress, you should stay in the chamber for the max time of three minutes and ask the operator to set the machine around -130 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are going through Cryotherapy pre or post workout, then the best results would come from the regular three minutes with the machine at -166 degrees Fahrenheit. However, if your main goal is to achieve a larger calorie burn, then staying in the machine for three minutes between -220 and -250 degrees Fahrenheit would be the most beneficial.
